Nuts and bolts

Yes my workshop is full of such spanners. It is clearly for use with BSF or BSW threads. It is not intended for use with UNC or UNF threaded bolts or nuts.

I am talking about UNC/UNF only, for which you should be using a spanner marked AF. I am not talking about BA, BSF, BSW, Metric or anything else.
You seem to be on the defensive.

I have not disagreed with you but simply added some more information.

I'm not in the least defensive, just slightly bemused. I am confident in everything I've written.

However, this statement I do not believe to be correct:
Spanners intended for use with for those non-metric bolt threads known as Imperial threads, eg BSW (British Standard Whitworth) and BSF (British Standard Fine) are not marked AF (Across Flats) but are marked with the thread type and diameter.

UNC and UNF are Imperial threads and the appropriate spanners are marked with the letters AF (Edit: and the AF distance in Imperial units of course) and not the thread type and diameter.

If there is evidence to the contrary then I'd be delighted to see it as I am always keen to learn.

My statement was correct.

Spanners intended for use on BSW and BSF fastenings were marked to indicate the major diameter of the male thread, and the thread type.
