Numax Deep Cycle Leisure Batteries

I just bought a Numax truck battery as an engine start battery from Tanya (google them) - competitive price and free next day delivery.

Only had it installed 2 days - but seems good so far! This isn't the 'semi traction' one you mention - but the Numax quality seems to be good enough.

Tanya has lots of Numax batteries - worth a look as research?

That's where I found them. Local shop seems to be selling them cheaper - but then farmers are a stingy lot...

Tempted by the 'leisure' batteries which claim to be good for starting as well - but should really get a dedicated deep cycle.

The old Delphi which hasn't hit 12v for the last 3 years is now showing 6:( Mind you it has run the fridge for all that time!

I've had one in use for the past 3 years and it seems OK. 3 years is about as much as I have ever managed to get out of a deep-cycle leisure battery of whatever brand. The Numax just now doesn't seem to be holding so much of a charge so perhaps it's nearing the end of its useful life. I may try one of those desulfator gadgets that are supposed to revitalise batteries (previous posts refer). I can't answer for the engine-cranking ability of the Numax as I have a separate battery for that.

Have 3 on my boat and they do domestic and engine start with no problem.

They don't seem any better or worse than any other "leisure" battery I have used. Life seems to be about 6 years which I am happy with at the price.

Perhaps you should try Elecsol - as they have a 5 year guarantee!

Sorry Talbert thats only againts 'manufacturing defects' when I asked them for an estimate of cycly life they refused to comment which I found suspicious. Generally al 'leisure' batteries are in the region og 4-800 cycles to 50% Which is 18months cont use and shoud give 3-5 years on most cruising boats.

I have had a 3 year old Elecsol exchanged when it failed to hold charge. I did take it to the factory though, conveniently near my home.

A couple of people have mentioned Elecsol. I bought three of them, and they all failed completely after one season. Tying to claim on the so-called 5 year warranteed was a very unpleasant experience; they are agressive and abusive on the phone, they even put the phone down on me twice. They know that if they stick at this you will eventually give up. I have since met several people who have had similar experiences with Elecsol.

I'm wondering if I should go for the 'Leisure' rather than the deep cycle. Especially since I can't find any meaningful specifications for these Numax batteries!
