Hi comes there's not a single short stay /overnight public mooring in the wonderful London Royal borough of Richmond upon Thames? From Richmond Lock to Teddington Lock if you're looking for a short stay unless your prepared to drop anchor forget it !!! Yet in Kingston and Stains both Royal boroughs ample moorings are available so come on Richmond pull your finger out and sort it out maybe you could use some of the huge stretch of space given to the ferry boats ?

It's tidal and outside of the EA's area. If you fancy a trip to Richmond, spend the night at Teddington Lock, then walk or cycle along the towpath to Richmond. About half an hour on foot, or walk up to the road(Riverside Drive, Ham)and call a cab.

We never venture beyond the end of the tail layby at Teddington, 'tis dark and scary and there be monsters.

and whats weird and even more scary has anybody noticed that cannot rely on it flowing in just one direction, think the EA with all the money it wastes on Jets, RollsRoyces and champagne on tap for all its staff, would do something about it...
Fairly certain CaRT would sort it Pronto :)

Sorry, will reply later after my champagne patrol. That said, working at the EA and achieving positive results has been described as akin to pushing water upnhill so we get used to it!

I believe you can do an overnight stay opposite Eel Pie Island at Twickenham. You do need to bare in mind that it is quite tidal there for 4 hours. 2 Hours before and after full tide your boat will move around quite a bit. After they drop the weirs at Richmond lock it will settle out..

I'd check it out at LW first to make sure you have enough depth, unless happy to take the ground. I've found variable depths over the years (and I don't think there's any reliable way to determine the rise and fall sufficiently to moor up at HW and forecast things - much depends on the fluvial flow)

You'd be brave to overnight on the wall at Twickenham.

Fairly large tidal range , unless on absolute neaps, what are you going to sit down on / hang up on / float onto / hang down on.

Moor in Teddington lock cut , walk over the bridge and catch the R68 to Twickenham / Richmond / Kew. Job done.

Yes, Teddington Lock is a good mooring point for exploring Teddington, Ham, Twickenham (Richmond, Kew, Kingston etc by bus) as Teddington_Lock says. Also mooring at Hampton Court, great for visiting the Palace. Mooring at Hampton too, with pleasant walking to Bushy Park, Hampton Court and buses further afield. All in the lovely London Borough of Richmond upon Thames and, of course, there is Kingston and Surrey too, on the other bank, depending whereabouts you may be.
Mooring below Teddington is extremely scarce due to large, ie several metres, range in depths between high and low tides...

Then register for a plot for a "self build or custom" housboat with the council they have to politely register the demand for serviced plots!
