Now what?

It really seems ridicoulous. That is a lot of money for that. Like one of the comments here said you must of maid someone mad because that really doesn't make sense.
 
Following on, just had this reply, so what the hell do the spanish want?
Dear Mr *****,

Thank you for your email.

Our records show that your ICC is not due to expire until next year, therefore you will need to apply for a replacement. Please find attached the declaration of loss form. You will need to complete it and return it to us either by post to the address stated below or email along with a passport sized photograph and the replacement fee. At the moment it currently takes around 10 working days for us to process the applications, however we do offer a fast track service which is an additional fee of £20.00 but we turn the application around within 2 working days. If you wish to use our fast track service please mark this clearly on the top of the application form and include the additional fee.

If you are operating a Spanish Flagged Vessel within Spain and do not hold the correct qualifications then they can fine you according to their legislations.

If I can be of any further assistance please do not hesitate to contact me

They just want you to hold the same certificate as a Spanish person needs to obtain to use a Spanish boat. The ICC is presumably not accepted as an equivalent qualification. Any beginner can obtain an ICC on payment for a short course, it is no proof of competence or experience, just satisfies some jobsworths in some countries.

Fortunately it is not a requirement for helming a British yacht, although some officials may not realise that.:)

This post implies that the police in Spain have your ICC document. Do you know who has it ??? If there was no fine it should not have been retained.

What other documents have they "retained" ???

You should do as I explained in an earlier post, detailing also the document(s) that were misappropriated or with-held, possibly irregularly ??? If you know the "boss" has no record of the fine or incident, then someone has your documents, and may have the intention of using them in a manner that could cause you problems later !!! Remember, that area is the southern frontier of Europe, with all manner of shenanigans going on.

Don't lie back and let things pass -- act.

No cops don't have them, my mate who is the owner has them all except the original icc.

But that would suggest that an ICC is not good enough to charter a Spanish flagged boat, but that is exactly what I (and many others) have done in the past.
 
What does Dave mean....icc is rya.

Hi Andy,

I was quite confident Aussie would win the rugby mate.

It is not the ICC cert that the spanish police want. It is the RYA cert with photo. But it must be an original or an original copy from the RYA.

EOKA

EOK was or is, from memory, the Greek Communist Party (Elleniki Organismos Kommunista - or something similar). They had a military wing that was certainly very active during WW2 and the political party was still going in the recent past.

Could this be the elusive EOKA?
