Having just recovered from my retribution after the nightmare channel crossing it is now Mr B's turn to be pissed off. We had friends on board last weekend and decided to anchor off the beach just before Brighton pier so we could all go swimming. There were 6 or so other boats there before us. No sooner had we bedded in the anchor when along came the jetskiers and various other PWC. They were using the anchored boats as a slalom course, their wash sending everyone all over the place. Now I know these PWC are great fun but the sea is huge, surely the buggers can go and find somewhere quieter to have their fun. Mr B is thinking of having clay pigeon shooting equipment installed on the flybridge, so next time the jetskiers come by, I hope they take evasive action if they hear someone shout "PULL"

Being based in Plymouth, I,d hoped to come across some second hand torpedoes or rocket launchers. Not big ones, you understand. Just small torpedoes a bit like in the old Hamlet advert. Where the toy submarine comes up and torpedoes some annoying craft.
Jetskiers have gone a long way to give us all a bad name and are also responcible for allot of legislation we've had to endure in some areas.
Forget the clay pigion gun Pauline. Get a harpoon gun fitted
on the foredeck. Shoot the buggers and tow them well out to sea, idealy in your F8 conditions!!

Tut Tut Keep it Legal

Why not engage in some heavy tackle game fishing. It seems to be as a good spot as any. Put out some heavy duty fishing lines and hooks. You never know your luck. Especially if the PWCs ignore your proper "vessel trailing lines - fishing", "vessel at anchor" etc. You never know, you may get a good strike.

Re: Tut Tut Keep it Legal

I think you'll find the majority of PWC users are as responsible as any water user, they also get hacked off by the "car dealer who's taken a PWC in part exchange moron" as anyone.
PWC users in general are all for some kind of legislation if only to show they are not the morons they are perceived to be.
I speak from both sides as I have a 34' motor boat and a Jet Ski.

Now, what really gets up my nose are the racing dinghies who set up their marker buoys right in the middle of a narrow channel. But I guess thats another story.

Are you permanently based in Brighton? If so, start a petition to get rid of PWCs and circulate it... I can assure you, there are quite a few owners in the marina that are not very happy about the recent increase of PWCs along with their irresponsible owners.

And while you're at it, check with the marina to see if they've been shown proof of insurance cover... I know of a recent case where a boat was rammed by a small powerboat, and the powerboat wasn't insured (by word of mouth from a fairly credible source) !!!

And, another thing... just had my boat valeted, but it's pointless because Brighton Marina is just a permanent building site... can't remember the last time I came down to the boat and it wasn't covered in dust.

Re: Brighton

Yep, I'm permanently based in Brighton, Berth 31/17 so am quite a way from the building of the new hotel etc. (+cleaning the outside of the boat is not my job!) I'll definitely look into the insurance aspect - thanks for the heads up.
