Managed to get down to the river at Windsor on Saturday/Sunday and rather surprised to find there was a closure for some 3 hours early yesterday morning for an open water swimming event. At first thought there was confusion over dates and it was the triathlon a week earlier than expected but not so. This was another event which has not been mentioned on the closures and restrictions page of visithames at all.
There was no evidence of any EA launches or patrols in attendance.

Took a look at the web this morning and find there are going to be many of these events this year.

Sunday 12th June - Windsor Triathlon - this has been on visitthames for some time.

Following have no prior notice on EA website at all:

F3 Events
Sunday June 5th - Royal Windsor Swim
Saturday July 16th - Marlow River Swim
Saturday September 3rd - Henley On Thames River Swim

Speedo series ?
Windsor 3rd July
Hampton Court 17th July
Marlow 21st August

These all seem to be attracting several hundred entrants at around £30+ a head !

What time was it closed?

Approx 0600 to 0900 on Sunday morning. AS you can see there were quite a lot of them ! The large orange float/buoy in the background was the turning point below the road bridge by the leisure centre.
I am not sure if the river was officially closed or not - seeking clarification from Reading - but there were no boats moving during that time and it would have been dangerous if they had.

Did there not used ot be an outdoor swimming club by the railway bridge there?

Its becoming very popular once more, a mate of mine (and tedd lock) does it all the time, even swam to Asia!
