Now getting AIS Safety Messages. Why?

I am minding my own business anchored in a quiet Greek bay. I have the Raymarine plotter powered up just in case. Recently I have received AIS Safety Messages and loud beeping. This is new on this trip! Today I worked out that the sender was 20 miles away and a large commercial vessel. I could see another vessel nearby on a parallel course.
I wonder if the vessel is using the test message to wake up the other vessel?

Switch the plotter off in anchorage, and relax ?

PS. Any more considered reply would require more info on plotter model, software version and whether auto updating of software is enabled.

I will look to see if I have! I was not aware of this option

Perhaps you are getting the alert because it appears the vessel and yours are on collision courses.

The sender was 20Nm from where I was anchored but on AIS I could see another vessel nearby.
I cannot find a setting to accept on not accept these alerts
I always keep the plotter when at anchor in case I suddenly have to move for some reason

You could turn your AIS Tx off so you are not triggering something on other craft.
