Now get out of that

Hey Clive!
What make of engine was the one with the broken Elbow??
just came across the thread... Don't lurk as oft as I would or should..
I had the same with my Bukh 24 and the Bukh guys say it'll happen about every 5 years or so... Spare elbows around £80!!!
Mind you I was still in Christchurch harbour 'n got a tow back to the mooring...
So just wonder if its anything to do with the fact that I always end up with fresh water through the system 'cause she lives in a river ??
Interesting thread tho'..
Cheers Bob E...

The engine is a Beta 10.
The survey I had when buying Sirenia last year said that there was some corrosion on the elbow and that we should monitor it.
It seemed o.k. right up to the time it failed.
just goes to show that one should aways take the advice you pay for seriously.

I am not sure of Sirenia's history before I got her last year but I believe that since the engine was fitted (1998) she was in the west country around Falmouth and Penzance.
She did spend 4 weeks on the Norfolk broads at the end of last year.
The break was before the water injection point so I am not sure if water type was a contributory factor.

The weld repair only cost €40 on a Bank holiday Saturday!
