Just watching on TV a race of rowing 8's on the Seine. Each is towing a waterskier...

This is for the French Telethon.

It ought to be just about possible horsepower-wise. Snag might be the intermittent nature of the pull. Were they pulling in the normally accepted regime of all in together all out together? It might be better to divide the crew into 2 and get 180 degrees out of phase somehow. I'd like to see it - will it come again sometime, cable p'raps?

racing speed of an 8 is around 12 knots, all-up weight around 1 ton, plenty of momentum, you'd probably need oversize skis but entirely possible.

Not possible to divide the crew up, I'd say, as having four boaties on their slides coming forward just as the other four are wellying on their blades would screw up the boat's momentum and balance. I think the waterskier would just have to put up with the 'mogul effect' of going up and down.

K4 kayaks (4 man) can tow a water skier too and is sometimes done as a demonstration. Saw it done once myself many years ago.
