UKHO and Trinity House Permanent/Preliminary/Temporary Notices
1. ENGLAND - East Coast - Less water. - A ‘Less water reported (2021)’ notice for the Ray Sand following the local NtM from the Crouch Harbour Authority last week. The notice is more about correcting the chart than changes this year. As I reported last year, the worst water was in line with the Ray Sand buoys and best water is about on a north – south line between 000°59’600E and 001°00’00E. This year’s survey in September confirmed that idea (see at the Download page for last years Downloads).
2. ENGLAND - East Coast - Depths. - 4 Reductions of depth in the Holm channel (south approaches to Great Yarmouth) but at all over 8m, unlikely to hinder leisure craft.
3. ENGLAND - East Coast - Buoyage. - Adjustment of the positons and light characteristics of the buoyage in Colliers Reach and Herrings Point at the River Blackwater.
4. ENGLAND - East Coast - Depths. - One reduction of depth west of the Thames Barrier. At 5.2m unlikely to hinder leisure craft.
5. Trinity House Notices - N. SHIPWASH LIGHTED BUOY - Latitude 52° 01.730’N., Longitude 001° 38.272’E. - Amendment : Wave actuated whistle replaced by wave actuated bell

1. ST CLEMENT'S REACH - RIVER THAMES - INSTALLATION OF MOORING - on or about 29th or 30th November 2021, the Port of London Authority (PLA) will undertake the installation a new swing mooring between St Clements swing & Greenhithe swing moorings. The new single yellow unlit Admiralty class mooring buoy will be identified as “PLA Fiddlers Swing No 12”. Chartlet depicting the location of the resultant works. The installation works for the mooring will be undertaken by the PLA vessel LONDON TITAN. All vessels involved in the works will maintain a continuous listening watch on VHF channel 68. 2. Channel Deepening Dredging and Beneficial Placements: Wrabness Foreshore - From around the 18 November 2021, for a period of about 3 days, the trailing hopper suction dredge Sospan Dau (IMO number: 7711062) will continue dredging in the main channel, but will move the disposal site from Mersea Harbour to the beneficial disposal scheme at Wrabness. The dredging contractor is the Boskalis Westminster / Van Oord Joint Venture appointed by the Harwich Haven Authority to carry out the Harwich Haven Channel Deepening Project. The dredge area is a section of the main channel known as area C2 covering the whole width of the main channel and running from about 250m east of the Platters / Pitching Ground buoys to about 1,000m west of the same buoys. Dredged material will be disposed of at two separate locations at Wrabness to reinforce the eroding foreshore. The dredger will dispose only at high water and be positioned as close to the disposal area as possible (see attached sketch WR 001). Disposal will be carried out on each high water (weather permitting), day and night, by direct pumping of material over the bow of the dredger. Mariners are requested to keep clear of the equipment and the site of the placement works.
The dredging is covered by the MMO licence held by Harwich Haven Authority: L/2020/00360/2. The disposal of material at Wrabness is covered by MMO licence held by Balhaven Ltd: L/2020/00413/4.
Maintenance Dredging & Beneficial Placements - From around the 22 November 2021, for a period of about 3 days, the trailing hopper suction dredge Sospan Dau (IMO number: 7711062) will change dredging location and beneficial placement
locations. The beneficial placement locations are identifiedon the image at the above quoted web page.
From around the 26 November 2021, for a period of about 20 days, the trailing hopper suction dredge Medway (IMO number: 9524152) will commence maintenance dredging within the haven. It is expected that the Medway will use the Inner Gabbard disposal area.
From around the 22 November 2021 for a period of 25 days, the work boat Forth Drummer (IMO number: 9676917) will undertake plough dredging within the harbour.
From around the 17 November 2021 for a period of 28 days, the survey vessel Porthos (11m LOA) will be surveying within the haven.
Mariners are requested to keep clear of the equipment and the site of the placement works. Detailed vessel movements can be obtained from Harwich VTS on VHF channel 71.
3. Ipswich Lock – Control updates - Ipswich Lock control will be undergoing a software update on Tuesday 23rd and Wednesday 24th November 2021. There may be some disruption to normal operations, which will be kept to the minimum possible. We do not anticipate a full lock closure will be required but ask that mariners contact the lock in good time before arrival at the lock gates. Please contact Orwell Navigation Service, VHF Ch. 68 or 01473 211066 for the latest information.
4. Lowestoft – UXO Position in Lowestoft SE Approaches - a Navigational Warning (WZ Notice), has been issued by the UKHO regarding unexploded ordnance (UXO) located in three positions off the East Coast. One of the UXO positions (circled on chartlet on the above quote web page), is close to the entrance to the Stanford Channel, SE approaches to Lowestoft. This seabed obstruction presents a potential hazard to vessels engaged in fishing activity using trawl/bottom fishing gear, and to vessels using anchors in this area. Further information will be provided once actions regarding this UXO have been agreed by the MCA and UKHO.
5. Burnham Fairway No 3 Lighted Buoy is now lit.
