1. ENGLAND - East Coast - Light-float. Automatic Identification System. Buoy. Fog signal. - A temporary notice reporting a short term replacement for the Inner Sunk safe water mark. The light float is removed for service and has a safe water buoy with different light characteristics substituted. Last I saw the light float on the Shotley TH mooring.

1. BLACK DEEP CHANNEL - SURVEY OPERATIONS - commencing on or about 17th August 2023 the vessel SCOTIA will undertake surveying operations in the Black Deep Channel. The approximate area of operations is indicated by the red-bounded zone on the chartlet on the usual web page. SCOTIA will be surveying a 40m-wide corridor within the survey area and may be towing survey gear astern. These surveying operations are expected to be carried out on a 24hr basis and be completed by 31st August 2023. SCOTIA has been requested to keep clear of all vessels navigating along the channel and to maintain a listening watch on VHF Ch. 69 at all times. Further details will be broadcast as needed by London VTS on VHF channel 69.
2. Dredging Operations – Harwich Haven - updated - from around 20 August 2023 the trailing suction hopper dredger Alvar Nuñez Cabeça de Vaca (IMO: 9505340) and the plough vessel Barney (IMO 9740938) will commence maintenance dredging in the Harwich Haven and around the Port of Felixstowe berths, for a period of approximately 7 - 10 days. Materials will be disposed of at the Inner Gabbard. For further information contact Harwich VTS (VHF 71).

RIVER MEDWAY – MEDWAY APPROACH CHANNEL - SS RICHARD MONTGOMERY WRECK SURVEY - Clinton Marine Survey AB will be undertaking, on behalf of the MCA and Receiver of Wrecks, a detailed sonar survey of the SS Richard Montgomery wreck and have obtained permission to enter the prohibited area. Marine operations will be running from around Monday 21st August 2023 with expected completion by Friday 25th August 2023. All survey work will be carried out by the Northern Wind (callsign 2IOX2; MMSI 235111562; fitted with AIS Class A) who will be keeping a listening watch on VHF Channels 16 & 74. 'Northern Wind’ will undertake a detailed survey of the entire wreck and the immediate adjacent seabed within the area defined as a polygon bounded by the following coordinates:

Please be advised that during survey operations the vessel will be restricted in its ability to manoeuvre, and other vessels are requested to pass with caution and minimise their wash. During survey operations the vessel will display the appropriate day shapes/signals and lights as required by the IRPCS. Admiralty Chart No. 3683 refers. 4. Ipswich - Environment Agency Tidal Barrier Maintenance - the Environment Agency’s upcoming annual maintenance of the Ipswich Tidal Barrier scheduled on Tuesday 5th and Wednesday 6th of September 2023.
The tidal barrier gate will be fully raised to coincide initially with periods of low water/slack water between the hours of:
- 08:30 and 15:00 on Tuesday 5th September
- 09:00 and 12:30 on Wednesday 6th September
By virtue, the navigable channel in the New Cut through the barrier will be closed during these aforementioned periods. However, the above timings are approximate at present and on both days the EA intend to restore navigation in a timely fashion once all necessary maintenance and inspection activities have been executed successfully. Please contact Orwell Navigational Services via Ipswich Port Radio on Ch 68 for more information.
5. Burnham Fairway No 5 - NAVIGATION - a temporary green light has been placed on the base of the damaged Burnham Fairway No 5 Lighted Buoy. Light characteristic QG. The buoy is expected to be replaced during September 2023.
