1. PRINCES CHANNEL TO OAZE DEEP - SURVEY OPERATIONS -
on or about 14th July 2023 survey operations will take place in the Princes, Channel, Oaze Deep and Sea Reach areas as shown on the chartlet (See at: Notices to Mariners). The survey operations will take approximately 8 days and will be carried out by the survey vessel MV PULSAR, pictured. Survey operations will involve pole mounted and towed survey equipment at a speed of approximately 4-5 knots. The vessel is fitted with operational AIS and will display the appropriate lights and shape whilst surveying. The MV PULSAR has been requested to keep clear of all vessels proceeding in the navigational channel at all times and will keep a listening on VHF channel 16/69. Further details of the survey works may be broadcast by London VTS.

New position of Raysand 51º 39.84’ N. 001º 00.57’ E - Characteristic remain unchanged.

Chartlet 2 NOT TO BE USED FOR NAVIGATION
The Raysand and Raysand North yellow ‘special mark’ buoys are not marking a safe-water route merely the best water available in the location for shallow draught vessels at certain states of tide.
Crossing the Raysand should only be undertaken by mariners with local knowledge after due consideration has been given to
• Rise of tide
• Weather conditions
• Passage ideally undertaken on a flood tide only
if in any doubt owners and master’s of vessel crossing to and from the River Blackwater to the River Crouch should do so via the Spitway route further to the East marked by the Swin Spitway and Whitaker Spitway light buoys.

I have updated my chartlet of the Ray Sand showing the new positions. You can download it at: Downloads (4 item)
That's all the official stuff. 'Gladys' and I did a resurvey of the Little Sunk crossing point last Monday. Despite all the winds it was lovely down there as you can see below. We can report that the Little Sunk is fine with a controlling depth of 3.2m CD in the centre. The Little Sunk knoll does have small signs of creeping to the SW but nothing to threaten for now. You can download the chartlet as above - 5th item. There is also a picture of Foulger's Gat:

It is difficult to take a photo of the Gat; close in excludes all of it, from distant is a bit...... well sort of distant. As you can see it was loveley and flat while at work. On our return, north of the Spitway it was like a corkscrew. On leaving the Little Sunk we had 1021mB, on reaching the Spitway we had 1017mB.

Hope it helps. That's it.
