1. Thames Estuary - Neuconnect Cable - Black Deep Pre-Lay Works - from approximately 30th June 2025 onwards, contractors instructed by the Neuconnect installation consortium will commence pre-lay works along the intended Neuconnect cable lay route in the Black Deep Channel, starting at approximately Kilometre Point (KP) 56 and running outward. These pre-lay works will be carried out from vessel NAUTILUS (photo below) and consist of cable route inspection & clearance, including a grapnel trawl. These works, or sections of these works, may be undertaken in any order at various positions along the cable route. NAUTILUS is expected to deploy gear to the seabed and stream gear astern during her works along the planned cable route. NAUTILUS will display appropriate lights, shapes and signals in accordance with IRPCS.
Vessels are requested to pass NAUTILUS at a safe distance, having regard to their wash effects and the possible presence of streamed or deployed gear. In the interests of navigational safety, vessel movements in the vicinity of these works may be subject to traffic management by London VTS as required.
Diagrams illustrate the Neuconnect cable route, ( Goto: Notices to Mariners select the Local list - first items this week - You can download the chartlets) the KP number points and a 250m buffer zone either side of the route shaded in yellow. These works are expected to be completed no later than 31st August 2025. However, in case of works overrunning beyond this date, this Notice will remain published with its expiry date extended as necessary until these works are completed. Further information will be broadcast by London VTS on VHF ch.69.
Note: KP 56 point is beyond Foulger's Gat but the other end (KP81) affects Long Sand Head. Presumably 'Pre-Lay Works' before KP 56 which take place later this year and taht would affect Foulger's and Fisherman's Gat.
2. River Thames - Greenwich Reach - Livingstone Wharf - Work low over the water - On or about 3rd July 2025 contractors will be conducting river wall works at Livingstone Wharf in Greenwich Reach. These works will involve man basket operations over the river wall and are expected to last approximately 6 weeks. The site working hours are Monday to Saturday, between the hours of 0700 and 1800. As man basket operations may be working low over the water, during site working hours, all vessels should keep will clear of the area marked in red on the chart let below and navigate with full regard to the works taking place. Further details will be broadcast by London VTS on VHF Channel 14, as required.
3. Orwell Bridge Centre Span Light. - the centre span light on the South side of the Orwell Bridge will be taken down for maintenance due to ongoing works. The light will be replaced with a fixed red traffic light on the centre line of the channel. The light will located directly above the regular centre span light. Due to the light being on top of the bridge at approximately 80m to the bridge the light will be out of view. This measure is temporary during hydro-demolition works and will be reinstated at the earliest opportunity. Mariners requiring more information should contact ONS on VHF CH68.
That is it.
