UKHO Permanent/Preliminary/Temporary Notices

1. New Editions of ADMIRALTY Small Craft Charts 19th May, 2022:
Chart 5605.7 Chichester to Ramsgate and Calais to Oostende, Dungeness to South Foreland. 1:75,000. Chart 5605.12 Chichester to Ramsgate and Calais to Oostende, Ports in France and Belgium. : A Calais. 1:15,000, B Gravelines. 1:20,000. C Dunkerque. 1:20,000. D Nieuwpoort. 1:20,000. E Oostende. 1:15,000
2. ENGLAND - East Coast - Depths. Drying heights. - Eleven reductions of depth on the Colne: two in Brightlingsea (both ‘edge’ issues), three on the way up to Rowhedge (one of which is a shallow patch between No 26 and No 28 [0.1CD} on the way to the Barrier), and 5 at Rowhedge and above. Of the latter, one on the way up to the Colchester Quays is a new drying height of 3.5m! At that spot was 0.1/0.2 previously so one wonders what caused an eleven foot ‘hump’! (Gladys of this formum is going to walk the bank and see if he can comment).
3. ENGLAND - East Coast - NM Blocks. Buoyage. Pilot boarding places. -
Two UKHO blocks showing the changes to the approaches to Kings Lynn (now preferring the Bulldog Channel): one for the SNC, the other for the SCC. The additional changes are a move of the No 1 yellow special buoy and the associated Kings Lynn Pilot Station at the entrance of the Bulldog Channel.
4. ENGLAND - East Coast - Depths. Obstructions. - Four reductions of depth in the Estuary shipping channels; one at the entrance of the Fisherman’s Gat, one close to Princes No 7, one close to the Knock John No 4 and the last close to the Sea Reach No 1. None likely to hinder leisure craft. The notice adds a reduction depth over an obstruction in Sea Reach.

Local

1. Harwich - Dredging Operations- Boulder Removal Operations (trial) -
From around 25 April 2022, the tug Buzzard (picture) (IMO: 9524528) will carry out trial boulder fishing operations in the main channel for a period of about 7 days. The tug (details below) will be fitted with a heavy wire and chain fishing net for these trials. The dredging contractor is the Van Oord / Boskalis Westminster Joint Venture appointed by Harwich Haven Authority to carry out the Harwich Haven Channel Deepening Project. The work area is the section of the Deep-Water Channel known as area D covering the whole width of the channel and running from No 1 & 2 buoys to number 7 & 8 buoys. (See sketch HHA/D - see the Local List at Notices to Mariners) If works are completed in area D, they may be extended into area C, from 7 and 8 buoys to the Rolling Ground buoy. The tug Buzzard will carry out boulder removal operations over 24 hrs per day, by pulling the net along the seabed immediately behind the tug, running East-West along the channel. The tug will then discharge these boulders to the seabed, alongside the backhoe dredger Goliath. The Goliath will load the boulders into the barges for disposal at the Inner Gabbard East disposal site. Lights and shapes as required by Collision Regulations will be exhibited and a listening watch on VHF Channel 71 will be maintained throughout. All vessels may be subject to Harwich VTS Traffic Organisation.

They will display lights and shapes for dredging activities as prescribed in the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea. The vessels will maintain a listening watch on VHF Ch 14. 4. Dredging Operations at Burnham Yacht Harbour - Please be advised that Burnham Yacht Harbour Marina Ltd have now completed their Maintenance Dredging Operations in the approach to and within Burnham Yacht Harbour, Burnham on Crouch, Essex.

Works around Foulger's Gat have finished.

That's it.

Thanks.
I have seen the BYH just dredge in the aisles whereas Bradwell move the boats about, detached all the fingers and dredge the whole thing. I wonder why BYH can get away with such an easier job - or do boats sit in the mud?
