1. ENGLAND - East Coast - Depths. - 4 slight reductions of depth in the Sea Reach, River Thames adjacent to Holehaven and the east. At over 13m unlikely to hinder leisure craft.

Local

1. Filming – River Crouch - that filming is to take place in and around West Wick Marina both shore side and on the water adjacent and close to Port Moor Cottage, River Crouch. A temporary Aqua Dock Pontoon has been placed from Port Moor Cottage and extended into the river approximately 75 metres. It is expected to be recovered within two weeks (from 10th March). The end of the Pontoon will be lit by an Amber Flashing Light.
2a. Sandwich Fairway Buoy is returned to station following fitting of a far heavier studlink chain. This will make the buoy sink further into the water and make the light more visually stable.
2b. Swing Bridge in Sandwich is to be closed to use for one night only on Sunday night 21:15 to 06:00 on 11 April 2021 for the first service of the bridge since the recent refurbishment works.
2c. Stour, Sandwich - a planned new line of demarkation buoys to be established by Kent Wildlife Trust on an east to west alignment in position 51°18′17″N, extending westwards from 001°22′48″E to the shoreline - see the image in the Local List on: Notices to Mariners
3. Port o' Wells - still dredging.
4. Potton Bridge: Open to marine traffic (it had failed mide-week last week) - Following the visit by the contractor this morning, the fault at Potton Bridge has been rectified and full service has been restored. A post by Harwich Haven Authority late last night after I had refreshed the web site. But as it is active from yesterday I have added the following in full and with image in the Local List at: Notices to Mariners

Harwich Haven - Capital Dredging & Non Routine Towage - capital dredging will shorty commence alongside Felixstowe number 7 berth. Please note that dates are approximate and subject to change.
From the 15th of March 2021 to the 04th of April 2021 the following tug and tows will be operating within the Haven and approaches.
Tug Afon Las (25m LOA) & split barge (62m LOA)
Tug Afon Cefni (22.5m LOA) & split barge (62m LOA)
Tug Duke of Normandy (27.6m LOA) & split barge (63m LOA)
Tug Dutch Power (31.10m LOA) & split barge (63m LOA)
Tug GPS Avenger (27.02m LOA) will undertake plough dredging in the vicinity of Felixstowe number 7 berth and support the Nordic Giant.
From the 17th of March 2021 to the 04th of April 2021. The backhoe dredger Nordic Giant (55m LOA) will be towed to Felixstowe by the Tug Dutch Power (31.10m LOA) to undertake dredging operations on number 7 berth. The Nordic Giant will remain in the Felixstowe berth box and dredge the first 30m off number 7 berth, it is expected that dredger material will then be loaded into the split barges highlighted above and towed to the disposal areas.
Dates to be confirmed. The trailer suction dredgers WATERWAY, WILLEM VAN ORANJE, MEDWAY and STRANDWAY may undertake dredging operations on Felixstowe number 7 berth. The survey vessel Porthos (11.4m LOA) will undertake survey operations in the Felixstowe vicinity

The lat/long is included in the full notice (as above). I think all the dredging will be well away from where we will be but clearly there will be many operations that will affect us. Disposal is at 'Inner Gabbard East'. Plotting the co-ords , the disposal site is just north of the W. Inner Gabbard Yellow Buoy on the 'purple' marking the short TSS - it is marked on charts as 'Spoil Ground'.

So much for saying it was a quiet week! Another Harwich Notice about dredging starting from today. As it affects Ha'penny, Harwich, Stour and Mistley I have added it today rather than leaving it to next Monday night's post:

Harwich - Maintenance Dredging - the Borr (19m LOA) will undertake water injection dredging within the Haven from the 17th of March 2021 to the 29th of March 2021.
The Borr is expected to undertake dredging operations within the Haven, focusing on Ha penny pier, The Navyard, Trinity House berths, Harwich International (Gabbard windfarm pontoons), Shotley channel and Mistley. Detailed movements can be obtained from Harwich VTS on VHF Channel 71. Lights and shapes as required by Collision Regulations will be exhibited and a listening watch on VHF Channel 71 will be maintained throughout. Dates are approximate and subject to alteration.

Detailed movements can be obtained from Harwich VTS on VHF Channel 71.
Lights and shapes as required by Collision Regulations will be exhibited and a listening watch on VHF Channel 71 will be maintained throughout. Dates are approximate and subject to alteration.

There's been dredging going on in the channel and around the berths at Felixstowe for about 3 weeks, by observation...

Yeap, that started in Week 8 for 35 days. I don't recall such a spate of initiatives continuously before. Perhaps every so often........
