3. River Thames - Sea Reach - London Gateway Port - Berth 5: Quay Wall Extention - Piling Operations - On or around 3rd February 2026, contractors working for London Gateway Port will move on to the next phase of piling works at Berth 5, with marine piling operations due to commence soon after.
With the 430 m Berth 5 extension now complete, piling works will focus on a further 75 m extension into the area that will form Berth 6. This activity will construct a new section of retaining wall to support the continued westward development of the port. A bubble curtain will be deployed to mitigate noise from the piling operations. The works will utilise the Neptune 585 Eurobarge, a 75 m x 25 m floating barge equipped with a 750 t crawler crane to support lifting operations. A second flat‑top delivery barge, the Neptune NP674 Barge (60 m x 20 m), will be used for the storage and delivery of materials alongside the crane barge. All barge movements will be carried out by the multi‑cat vessel Felix or similar. A safety boat, the WSB Resolute, will also be in attendance. A 75 m exclusion zone is to be maintained from vessels manoeuvring on and off Berth 4 by delivery and support barges. During manoeuvring, assisting tugs are permitted to enter the 75 m exclusion zone. Once a vessel is suitably moored on Berth 4, delivery and support barges may operate within 75 m of the vessel’s final berthed position if required. Works are expected to continue until August 2026. All vessels involved in the works will maintain a continuous listening watch on VHF Channel 68. For the latest information, contact London VTS on VHF Channel 68.
