UKHO Permanent/Temporary/Preliminary Notices:
1. ENGLAND - East Coast - Depths. - Two reductions of depth on the approach to the south entrance of the Holm Channel towards Great Yarmouth. Unlikely to hinder leisure craft.
There were quite a few reductions of depth in the approaches to the Holm Channel and in the Corton Road during 2024, viz: NtM 1641, 2943, 3111, 4389(P) and 5473 of 2024 in the Approachs and 2873 and 3008 of 2024 in the Corton Road. You can see those images in the 2024 list on the webpage.
2. BELGIUM - Restricted area. - A new restricted area just to the north of the entrance to Oostende (i.e. to the east). Perhaps worth noting if approaching the harbour from the east lest ‘cutting the corner’ and infringe the rules.

River Thames - Limehouse Reach - Valve Maintenance Works - on or about Tuesday 11th February 2025, contractors will be carrying out riverside flap valve inspection, removal, and replacement in the closed Limehouse Entrance to West India Dock. These works are expected to take approximately 2 days. The general location of works is indicated by the three red boxes on the chartlet. To facilitate these works the multicat vessel JUMBO will be mobilised to the site to spud down and conduct lifting operations. Further to this at low water there will be persons working on the waterline. During the works, requests for vessels to proceed with caution or pass at slow speed may be made by London VTS on VHF ch.14, in accordance with the Port of London Authority’s Port Information Guide, under ‘London VTS’, section 4. International Code Flags ‘Romeo Yankee (RY)’ will be displayed accordingly. Further details may be broadcast by London VTS on VHF Channel 14.

River Thames - Lower Pool - Wapping Police Engineers Pier - Lifting Operations - On or about 10th February 2025, contractors working on behalf of the Metropolitan Police will commence cladding replacementand repair operations at Wapping Police Engineers Pier. Working hours are 0800-1800 Monday to Saturday, and these works are expected to last 3 weeks. To facilitate these works the crane barge GPS BOXER will be positioned outboard of Wapping Police Engineers Pier. The location of the works is marked on the chartlet. During working hours, a safety boat or tug will be in attendance. All works vessels will remain outside of the authorised channel. Requests for vessels to proceed with caution or pass at slow speed will be made by London VTS on VHF ch.14, in accordance with the Port of London Authority’s Port Information Guide, under ‘London VTS’, section 4. International Code Flags ‘Romeo Yankee (RY)’ will be displayed accordingly. Vessels are requested to be mindful of the nature of the works and of their wash when passing the works. Further details will be broadcast byLondon VTSon VHF Channel 14.
3. River Thames - Limehouse Reach - Canary Wharf Fender Replacement - On or about Monday 27th January 2025, contractors will replace the fenders on Canary Wharf Pier. These works will take place overnight, between the hours of 2230 and 0500, and are expected to take
approximately 2 weeks. Canary Wharf Pier will be closed to navigation overnight during these hours. The general location of works is indicated by red box on the chartlet. To facilitate these works, a temporary access platform will be erected on the outside of the pier during site
working hours. This will be stowed by day between 0500 and 2230, allowing access to the pier. Vessels should navigate with caution in the vicinity of the works. During the works, requests for vessels to proceed with caution or pass at slow speed may be made by London VTS on VHF ch.14, in accordance with the Port of London Authority’s Port Information Guide, under ‘London VTS’, section 4. International Code Flags ‘Romeo Yankee (RY)’ will be displayed accordingly. A safety boat will be in attendance throughout the works. Further details will be broadcast by London VTS on VHF Channel 14, as required.
4. Surveyed Depths – Harwich Harbour – Update 1 - Mariners are advised of the latest hydrographic surveys showing depths in Harwich Harbour. Noting that dredging operations are ongoing in the harbour at the time of publication. The controlling depth for deep draught vessels navigating within the harbour area should currently be taken as 15.0m below chart datum, plus height of tide. The minimum depths below chart datum (not including inside berth boxes) are:
• 15.0m - spot soundings between the Shotley Spit Buoy and Babergh Buoy
• 14.8m - spot soundings between the Grisle Buoy and Shotley Spit Buoy
• 14.9m - spot soundings between the Fort Buoy and Grisle Buoy

Obstruction on seabed at Felixstowe Ro-Ro Berth 3 - hardly think you would run over this: there is an obstruction on the seabed at the Port of Felixstowe Ferry Terminal in the RoRo 3 berth box, near bollard number 6. The obstruction is at approx. 1.9m below chart datum, and measures around 4m x 1.5m in size. Location: 51o 57.117’N 001o 18.829’E Use of RoRo 3 berth is restricted to no further west than bollard 5. All vessels are advised to keep a minimum of 10m clearance from the quay line when navigating in this area.
6. Ipswich Lock Annual Maintenance - the annual planned lock maintenance will be undertaken on the Ipswich lock. These works will be conducted between: -
Wednesday 5th February to Friday 21st February: The closure will be in place weekdays 0800-1800: The Lock will be made available during weekends.
The lock may be available outside of these hours however this will depend on the work schedule. Mariners requiring more information should contact ONS on VHF CH68.

Dredging Operations at Essex Marina - Please be advised that Essex Marina will be undertaking Maintenance Dredging Operations in the approach to and within Essex Marina, Wallasea Island, Essex, starting w/c 27th January 2025. Dredging Operations will be carried out by Tug PUNISHER who will maintain a listening watch on VHF Channels 16 and 11. Caution should be taken when entering and leaving the Marina whilst Dredging Operations are in progress. For additional information please contact: Essex Marina Tel 01702 258531
8. Kings Lynn Dredging - dredging operations will be taking place between: - 27th January- 5th February 2025. Dredging operations will take place on the Riverside Quay and inside the enclosed docks. The dredger undertaking the works is the Cherry Sand. Mariners are advised to always pass slowly and cautiously. A listening watch on VHF Ch14 will be maintained throughout operations.
