Three things of note in the Estuary this week.

First the laying of the cable from the Swale to the London Array will bring about a closure of Fisherman's Gat whilst they are working in that area. No dates yet but we are trying to get some advanced information.

See: http://www.eastcoastsailing.co.uk/index.html

Second a survey is announced for the extension of the Kentish Flats wind farm.

Third: They intend working on a monopile at the edge of Foulger's Gat this week, so Foulger's will be definitely closed.

All on the usual NtM pages.

Fishermans Gat

Hi Tillergirl,

I am planning to go through the Fishermans Gat for the first time on Saturday (23rd July) would you know if it will be open by then??

MANY thanks in advance

At the moment I am getting no response to my enquiry but I plan to give them another couple of days before chasing up them up. My guess (for what's that's worth) is that you will be fine as they are starting at the East Swale this week and progressing from there. So there by Saturday? Well possible I guess, these things don't take that long. But the Weekly notice from the London Array is saying:

"Cable installation vessel 'Jan Steen' will commence trials on passage from Hartlepool, assisted by the vessels MCS Ailsa and MCS Maestro, Then she is expected to head for Sheerness."

and it also says that work is concentrated in the East Swale at the moment.

So it doesn't look like the Jan Steen is going to be laying cable this week although there is a 'multicat' doing pre-cable grapnel runs along the route. I would expect the CG to broadcast details of any closure in their MSI broadcasts. The guard vessel this week (till Sunday) is supposed to be the Ocean Dragon so if in any doubt when you get there in the event of lots of big stuff around, I would call them on 16 to check.
