One small one from the UKHO:

1. Change of light characteristics on the light on starboard mole of the entrance to the marina.

Temporary

1. River Thames - London Gateway - exclusion zone of 100 metres when cranes are delivered by Chinese specialist vessels expected during May;
2. River Yare - installation of commercial pontoons on the east bank - for wind farm vessels use - now established;
3. River Yare, East Bank, Diving on Berths 5C and 6A. 13th to 30th May;
4. Dredging River Orwell and Port of Ipswich, two vessels, one from 10th May for 6 days and the other 7th May for 9 days (approx) - engaged in the Long Reach for deposits, swinging by the No 3;
5. Port of Wells - more dredging;
6. Ramsgate - temporary racing buoys now in position - positions listed in the usual web page;
7. Ramsgate - dredging campaign from 23rd April for approx 8 weeks;

That's it.

.

One hates to be picky especially considering what a wonderful service this is but .... d'ya think you could let us into the secret?

:D

It isn't really 'clickbait' although 'tis nice. In a simple week it is easy to repeat but in a longer week repeating everything is a bit too much. And technically I think it repeating precisely would breach my licence with the UKHO... and adding the images would be a bit of a fag.

Can I remind all that the 'area' repeats are intended to help someone going off on a cruise; for example, if I were off to the Mudway and Swale, I can quickly review the area (its provided for Havengore to Dover) to see if there is anything relevant and not bother to review the whole list.

7. Ramsgate - dredging campaign from 23rd April for approx 8 weeks;

Can anyone tell me what this will do for access to the marina circa May 12/13Th
Is the marina closed altogether at certain times or will it just be a matter of waiting in the inner harbour for half an hour or so for the dredger to move

The complete tect of the NtM is:

"Mariners are advised that the Grab Dredger ‘Mannin’ will be undertaking a dredging campaign within the Royal Harbour and Port of Ramsgate Entrances, commencing 23rd April for approximately 8 weeks.
The dredger will be monitoring Channel 14 and vessels are requested to pass at low speed"

Looking at the Ramsgate Harbour survey, I would think they would they would be thinking, inter alia, at dredging around/in the outer marina. Can I suggest you ring them:

Phone - the Dockmaster on - 07919 211143 or E-mail: dockmaster@thanet.gov.uk

Many thanks for your assistance- Much appreciated

Seems to me they would do well to dredge the entrance to the inner harbours plus the hump on the inner one !!!!!

Interim news - River Crouch - Swallowtail No 4 Light Buoy - Mariners are advised that the Swallowtail No 4 Light Buoy is currently off station.

No 4 pairing closely with the starboard hand buoy Buxey Edge is probably the one to take the most care to avoid the start/end of Swallowtail

I'm not surprised. Anyone who visits Suttons Wharf will have seen a big green buoy sitting on the hard marked 'Swallowtail'.

Not the buoy. There's another big green buoy marked "Swallowtail" at Burnham Yacht Harbour too. They're old ones

Swallowtail No.4 is a yellow conical with cross topmark

Which reminds me once when it was a green one, I was having a nice nap in the sun on the foredeck with my chum in a gentle breeze and I was woken by no motion - aground. I regarded the green buoy and commented that it was the wrong side. 'Sorry, said the chum, I'm colour blind'. Oh well sobeit I thought. And then I said to the chum 'it is pointed'. 'Good point' said the chum. Best I don't say the forumite in case he mentions 'plit the anchor'.
