Notice from Harwich Haven Authority about a survey at the Walton Backwaters - this will be useful

Hydrographic Survey Operations
Mariners are advised that Glanville LTD will be undertaking survey operations in the:
• Walton Backwaters from the 24 January 2022 to the 25 January 2022
• River Orwell between the 26 January 2022 and 28 January 2022.
Note: dates are approximate and subject to change.
Surveys will be undertaken from the vessel Zego 300 (a small sort of dory)

I am not aware of a particular depth problem at Pye End, or even withing half a mile of it..

Well I wouldn’t say it’s a problem, but it’s not good, wouldn’t go though there at low tide +/- 1 hour

It all depends on your draft, if you look at the chart, Dovercourt Bay is pretty flat with little variation in depth until you get in towards the end of the Pye Sand and the start of the approach channel to the Backwaters.

For a deeper draft vessel the whole area is best avoided around LW springs I would have thought.

I draw 1.4m and wouldn't want less than 0.6m rise of tide so long as there's not any significant wave action.
