The skipper was effectively single-handed with trainees aboard. OK for good weather but when the fog came down while in a constricted waterway he couldn't leave the deck to switch on the radar or operate the VHF so he winged it and lost. The lesson of this incident, to me is that a sailing school yacht should have an experienced assistant to help the skipper should such a situation arise.
"The skipper jumped from the mast to the helm" Blimey! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Also in the specs sheet of the boat "Draft at time of accident" /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif does it change then?
"When one of the other crew members asked about it [the radar] he [the skipper] said there was not a radar on board" in spite of there being a radar up the mast!
