Not That Boaty - Currency Transfer

I guess there must be a lot of accumulated experience of transferring currency on this forum.

I've used xe.com to make a few small transfers from Euros to pay for things in Sterling, but I'm now looking to make a larger one. Enough that it's probably worthwhile to compare the rates from a few websites to determine the best. Any recommendations as an alternative to xe.com?

Try CurrencyFair.
Apart from an instant front page rate, they have a mini market where you can usually get a better rate. With only a fixed transaction fee, they are often cheaper than others for large sums.

I use Caxton FX, mainly because I use their currency card and it was easy to setup. No fees, fairly simple procedures, you can use a debit card to make the Sterling payment. As others have said, the specialists are much cheaper than the banks and often easier to use.

Have a look at Torfx; references elsewhere say it's pretty good. Compare their rates with Transferwise (as mentioned above). If you wanna go Transferwise then message me for my introductory link and you get a benefit of reduced (maybe nil) fees for your first transfer

I use TransferWise all the time, just sent £1000 to Spain today. Cheap and very easy.

Me to. Use them to pay my marina fee each year without problems.

I use Transfergo.com.
TransferWise web site did not work when I went to use it about a year ago - my complaint resulted in the advice to use the tab key to step between boxes and the excuse that they were a start up. Cowboys came to mind.
I then made a comparison of a number of FX sites for a sum in excess of £1000 and Transfergo.com gave slightly more euro to the pound on the bottom line. (Exchange rates and fees were not easily comparable so had to calculate the actual rate achieved working as quickly as possible to get a fair comparison). Caxton FX was very poor, which surprised me as I have been using their cards for years. Of course relative rankings may have changed since then. I still use my Caxton card when outside Euroland as its convenient and works well for smaller sums.
Have found Transfergo polite and helpful when I have had a question.

That is strange, I first used transfer wise 2 years ago and found it really easy and quick to use with no glitches and I am by no means IT savvy. Have used it many tmes since without any problems.

That's interesting because I have been using Transferwise on a monthly basis for over three years now without a hint of a problem and nothing but excellent service.

Another Transferwise user, it works, it's dead simple and dead cheap. The app is very good. A year ago they really were just starting up, no surprise they may have still been debugging.

Me too. Really helpful people and there is no fee on transfers of £3000 and over with normally a better exchange rate than others. Also they have a currency brokerage to get you the very best rate if you need serious money for buying a house...
