Not such a good day

For this yacht and owner. Lots of pics of a local yacht that came ashore this morning dragging the mooring riser with her, looks as though the shackle joining it to the ground chain came undone.

Lots of tyres and fendering lashed under the hull to try and protect the hull when coming off the rudder was also removed to save it from damage, but there was a fair bit of thumping before she was dragged off. A good outcome so far no apparent leaks and she is safely tied to another mooring for now.

Not a happy sight. I hope the damage isn't too bad.

We no longer use shackles to join the risers to the ground chains on our club moorings. Every riser comes with a large welded ring on the end and when we fit them to the ground chain, we feed the riser through the end link of the ground chain and then reeve it back through the ring.

The Shore boat was used to voluntarily provide safety cover, look at the pictures how many people can you see on a yacht that has just been bouncing around on its beam on granite? There were very real and genuine concerns as to the vessels water tight integrity.

Nobody has any intention of claiming salvage it's called being community spirited....

Hopefully this clarifys things a bit more clearly?

Hope he's well insured..

A previous boat of mine suffered a similar fate while insured third party only. She bounced on the rocks for a couple of tides and then we dragged her off. The damage was mostly cosmetic. GRP is amazingly tough.

The repairs came to about £1200, which was still less than keeping her in the nearest marina for a year.

They always help out if they can. It's also good training and earns some beer tokens / good will (and why not) ................
