Not so stressy and decidedly cheerful young fart

Hi Chris. Holiday also starts on Friday, Rival 32 "St Brigid" off to Holland for three weeks. Which forecast do you look at (Which lies the least?)

Cheers

Andrew

Not so stressy and decidedly cheerful oldish fart

My holiday starts on Sunday (well the sailing bit does anyway). Looks like the wind stops blowing on Monday, it could take us all week just to get to Weymouth. At least SWMBO won't be seasick...

Off to Brittany on Sunday, probably through the Chanel du Four. Yesterday looked at UK Met Office (a.k.a Bracknell, even though they are now in Exeter), ECMWF and US met service forecasts for the relevant period. Completely different story from each of them!

Also have compared US forecast for the same time in the future (E of The Lizard, Sun 06Z) as issued at different times:
<font class="small">Code:</font><hr /><pre>
18 Jul 00Z 06Z 19 Jul 00Z 06Z 20 Jul 00Z
SSE 3 NE 3 NNE 2 N 2 NW 2
</pre><hr />
From the latest charts, I can expect anything from a lovely, sunny F3-4 beam-broad reach, or light and variable, much of it on the nose, with rain.

Andrew,

Well, the one I used was the ECMWF one which didn't show too many isobars across Europe and the BBC website for the bits of Norway where we're going to.

Best of luck in Holland

Chris

The met office synoptic charts I saw show a low crossing southern UK on Sunday. I'm not worrying yet, its a long way off and as likely to change for the better as it is for the worse at this stage.

Both weatheronline and xcweather show F5 in the channel for Sunday as well, but they tend to follow the met office predictions. I think I'll wait until Theyr can tell me what it thinks.

It wasn't like that last year - the mistral never stopped, sometimes gusting F8 in the afternoons. Made for some stressy cruising! Our Oceanis 36 didn't like beating into that very much.

We're starting off in a little place called Orhaniye or Keci Buku and making our way to Gocek on a one way cruise. Should have the wind behind us the whole way. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
