Not only WAFI's are inconsiderate

I think they need tickets like at the delicatesan counter. You leave your mobile number and you get a ticket saying which boat you are after in the queue, and how many litres that boat expects to take. Then you can moor while you're waiting, not hold station, and come to the fuel berth just before the guy in front has finished

either that or refuel on entry (assuming small queue) , that way they have two opportunities for a quick queue, I cant understand people who turn up to their boats at peak times on a busy sunny weekend/ bank hol and expect no one else in the way !

Just thought I'd add the SLOWEST fill up ever
Some on this forum may remember - return from Malta to Spain
Tunisia is NOT the place to pick up fuel - this was Sidi Bu Said (Tunisia)

We had been told NOT to load the local fuel but to use the safer "Tanker" fuel
We didn't know at the time how small the tankers were!!!
I ordered 3000 litres - I was assured that each of these was 1000 litres - Just had to take their word for it!!

No electric pump either so a little man was employed to hand pump.
When we complained that the delivery wasn't going fast enough, the man in charge had a solution - the guy hand pumping was told to pump faster!!

This was the end of the hose

In fact, the second "Tanker" had an electric pump - but no electric
So we were asked to start our genset and provide some power!!

Those of you that were there might well remember!!!

We were in QAB at the end of June and needed to fill up for our return journey to Brixham, asked the dock master about getting some fuel and was advised that a large vessel would be re fuelling at 3 PM and would be taking on 3000 ltrs so suggested either getting in before 3 or leaving it until 4.

Decided to get the fuel @ 2.30 so promptly left our berth for the 50 mtr trip to the fuel pontoon. When we arrived a yacht was taking fuel so patiently hovered waiting our turn only to be que jumped by another yacht who rafted up to the 1st boat who had now finished taking fuel

Remonstrated (politely) with the owner who by way of explanation said "Oh we only need 50 ltrs" like that made it ok.

He promptly pootled off leaving the 1st boat still tied up merrily chatting away with the dock master?

15 mins later he sets off and we come alongside and take on fuel. Asked the dockmaster what took so long to be told the previous boat was waiting for a berth to become available and didn't want to hold station outside the marina!!!!!!

I never thought my rant would start such a discussion.

A little trip to the beautiful River Yealm has calmed me down, so maybe we should draw this to a close.

I would like to apologise to those whom I have offended. I agree I was 'out of order' with some of my remarks, and I hope you will forgive!

I 'm always amazed at the flow rates from marina pumps - a lot them seem slower than forecourt pumps in petrol stations. We could put 10,000 litres of fuel in a Tornado in around 15 minutes or so back in the early '80's so it can't be that hard.

why stop with marina bowsers? how about 'on the plane refuelling' similar to this, just on the water...

no need to go to the fuel berth at all ;)
