We brought our new (to us) boat down from Maldon via Bradwell to Tollesbury over the weekend. :eek:

Didn't seem to be many people about on the water. ;) Saturday was actually brilliant, water like a millpond, loads of birds, a seal passed close by, and it really was enjoyable. Just the feet were a bit cold.

Thanks to the guys at Bradwell who made us comfortable, and to the staff of the clubhouse who entertained us on Saturday evening.

Roll on Spring!

Sunday in the yard at Brightlingsea was far better than I expected.

Went to winterise the engine after the boat had been lifted and the cold weather hit before I could get there. Expectedd to get that done and be too cold to do any more but in addition I got the sails off and cleared out most of the gear I wanted to take off.

Can't see me getting down again before Christmas as I have a few days away on the dark side at the end of this week, then in Gosport next week on a course.
 
Working on Saturday.
Went for a short sail on Sunday morning.
Just along the Walton Channel and back.
It was good to get on the water for a little while.
We then retiered to the Harbour Lights for a roast.
Very nice, don't know how they do it for the price!
 
I went down on Saturday morning to move the boat to SYH to be lifted out this week. The decks had a generous covering of snow but it was a lot warmer than of late. Nice conditions once out there but hardly a breath of wind despite the strong wind warning!

Congratulations on your new boat! I have to say if it was me the video camera would have been pointing at the boat not Maldon and Heybridge :D

Will look you up next time we're down - is she out on the Saltings?

yes we are out on R19 which is near the lightship. Video of the boat will start when I have tidied up a bit :o She has been a bit neglected for the last 18 months or so. Needs painting and decorating. I plan to have her lifted out in February to the necessary.

If you had got closer in when passing Heybridge Basin I could have checked my cover was ok without having to go down!!!!

It is a Sanyo Xacti similar to that recommended by Dylan. Its not the waterproof one, but does 720 HD pretty well.

£129 from Jessops with a £30 cash back at the time :D

The original film is better than the youtube version, but even so is useable.

Very pleased with it, and its almost cheap enough to be throw away. :eek:

Check out the little Kodak Playsport as well, also 1080p HD, 5MP stills, and waterproof to 3m - they were on Amazon for 79 quid recently now bumping along at 89 last I saw. Very tough, you can drop them, drive over them, all sorts of nastiness and they still seem to work. Happy owner.

If you send me a PM with your email address I will send you a couple of originals to look at.

Generally its not bad, the flash is a waste of time.

My general rule is, for still pictures I use a Canon DLSR and video I use a video camera. I have yet to see a sensibly priced camera that will do BOTH tasks well. The Xacti is better than many I have looked at.
