Not long now...

The White Hart in Wargrave was very accomodating, new owners with an aim to please and nice grub as well. Cross Keys recomendation spot on, burgers all around on your recomendation all around and absolutely superb! Nice to watch the Brown Trout and Chubb in the Pang from the beer garden. Service was excellent and they even set up a TV in the beer garden so I could watch the Holland game. Overall excellent, the Brownie desert was spot on, highly recommended, again!

Moored up outside The Lethern Bottle, what a gorgeous spot! Sun is out, we have some shelter from the fresh breeze and life is good. I think Shillingford tomorrow night. What is The Plough like at Long Wittenham, apparently they have a music festival this weekend, but ideally after a nice quiet mooring for the dogs and somewhere we can watch the football Friday night.

Had an excellent meal last night and great just moored up out the front. Saw The Beetle and Wedge, looks lovely but just worried what we would do with our 2 doggies as doesn't seem much open space there. Mind you, the flash looking gaff across the river from it has a lovely mooring and nicely mown grass, I wonder if they take lodgers and offer a river taxi? :) I was suprised how few really nice mooring spots were available, well for our boats anyway that draw a bit more water. Abingdon tomorrow night, maybe 2, any mooring places to avoid and pubs to recommend?

Abingdon

The Broad Face used to be good, but it changed hands last year so would be interested to know what you find. It will be a few weeks before we manage to get up there.

Other than that I can't recommend ANY pubs in Abingdon unfortunately!

Good Italian though, Bella Naopli top end of the precinct and turn left.

Wow, what a lovely place Abingdon is! Beautiful approach to the town and ended up with a fab mooring just town side of Abingdon lock. Saw the pool moorings that are advised to avoid and wouldn't have stayed there anyway, no dogs allowed understandably and way too many noisy tin lids, of the uber young variety squeeling away. Had a quick stroll into town, popped into the Kings Head and something or another, very nice and outdoor tv and bar and BBQ so I think that will be football venue, a nice up marketish choice I think. Broad Face looked nice, no football but will poke my head in tomorrow to report. Nags Head was a swifty heading back to the boat, lovely beer garden and some nice furniture but just not my sort of place. Great butchers in town called Hedges, down an alley way between M & Co and some baguette place. It supplies a lot of catering companies I think and is mainly a wholesaler, but has a small retail counter. Had some really good chipolatas and a leg of lamb which the butterflied for our BBQ. We will stay another night here and start heading back on Saturday to linger at some nice places missed on the way up. The French Horn is sounding tempting for a push the boat out, so to speak, dinner as well and also to check out The Bull. Come on England!!
