I was on the bridge of the Stena Hollandica this weekend (as a visitor) - Very interesting - AIS was used a lot combined with radar (which picked up clearly a small motor boat fishing a wreck (not many yachts out on dutch side to check) Superb view from bridge both fore and aft from 35m up.
1st officer (nice chap - Hoek lifeboat coxswain) commented that the best thing yachts could do at night was shine a powerful lamp on their sails as for the most part small craft nav lights were crap and frequently incorrect.
Also for small craft to look behind them before crossing from the Guard bouy to Shotley as this can be quite amusing if they don't.
The general impression was of consideration for yotties and the like as long as they consider larger vessels by showing the correct lights and kept out of the channels at awkward times.
Well that was the view from a professional seaman probably not similar to some of the more dodgy outfits we all know are out there.
the only other thing he said was he seemed to be followed everywhere by some yacht called Guapa /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
So thanks for that Stena, I enjoyed the visit /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
