Like you I also knew one of the crew and also know the fast 42 quite well amd have sailed on one or two of then and very sadened by the loss.

I hope a complete investigation will take place so we can find the cause and prevent anything simular happening again.

Pls keep us informed as news about this is slow to get to JHB

Raised on another sailing website.

Looks like a low floating 20 foot container just awash astern. Conjecture is (if that's what it is) a conscious decision was made to hang onto it as a stable platform if the hull sank.

Terrible to contemplate.

the only consolation...

if there can be.

If remains are found and identified the families will have closure on their missing loved ones.

Additionally, life insurance will then pay out to help support the families.

So sad.

I remember back in the mid 80's a swedish family had just taken delivery of their new boat, and was on their maiden voyage, when the keel fell off, flipping the boat over, trapping their young daughter killing her.
When are they going to stop building boats like that. It seems, as cars are getting safer, boat are getting more dangerous. Is the need for speed worth the price. I think not.

If it is a container either attached to or entangled in the yachts rigging then surely after 5 months colliding together the yacht would be damaged enough to sink.
But, I do agree there seems to be an unnatural square patch of calm water behind the boat.

Terrible event to happen thou
