Not entirely boaty, but even what\'s not is good

Not to be confused with 'A Voyage round the Shipping Forecast', this is 'The Shipping News', by E Annie Proulx. Nominally about a misfit returning to his antecedants' homeland in Newfoundland. The 'Shipping News' of the title refers to his column in the small town newspaper, which details the seaborne arrivals and sailings.
