It’s not all my fault that I have having seen a yacht decided it was not what we wanted. We certainly set off with high hopes that we will see a boat that fits our needs and is repairable and that we can afford .Obviously at the cheap end of the market we have run into problems or the boat doesn’t fulfill theexpectationsof the wife which is beyond my control. It comes down to the fact that we don’t “ need “ a yacht. It comes down to the fact that we have gone for years without one .I have to admit I am not sure why I want another yacht.Maybeit the last gasp and grab at youth remembered or just something that is not retiring to mowing the lawn.

Used to be a standing joke that sailing wives would reject a potential purchase because 'the mirror is in the wrong place". What this meant with sailing women is that they had an intuitive 'feel' that this boat wasnt 'right' The general feeling was that that intuiition was generally correct. Buy a boat with the mirror in the wrong place you were buying a bucket of trouble of one sort or another - - usually with the boat, not the wife!.

Just get yourself a gaff dinghy, or the Spanish equivalent - something you can sail yourself that won't tip over unless you try really hard. Keep it at a club with nice facilities, restaurant, balcony looking over the water - this is a challenge to you to get sailing.

Unfortunately there are minimum requirements. We enjoy just sitting aboard ,spending a night or two.In order to tend my wifes “finca” we need to spend a minimum of two nights in the ria de Vigo so the boat has a double use as weekend cottage.

Just because it's not your fault, doesn't mean we can't blame you! 😁

. . . Maybeit the last gasp and grab at youth remembered or just something that is not retiring to mowing the lawn.

And what is wrong with either of those motivations? :)

You can sit with the old men at the port....and reminisce....you can catch the attention of boat owners by offering unsolicited advice. These are fine aspirations. But if you want them to gather around you and hear your stories....then you need to be a boat owner

The forum offered the ideal format for reminiscing ……at the marina they hardly give you the time of day ,besides that areall locked into their pontoons with no handy fish boxes to sit and tell tales of life beyond the harbour wall

Gather to list her minimum requirements. At least you stand a chance then when you go to see a boat.
On the last outing she was not impressed by the amount of easy start it took to start the engine and she had her suspicions about the owner ,he didn’t sound like he came from Albacete…….how can one argue with that😂The side decks (narrow) are so far the only concrete facts although she liked the Albin Vegawe had in Emsworth .

I think your "minimum requirements" are based on looking t sailing as caravaning on water rather than the joy being out in a boat under sail. Get yourself some kind of day boat which can be fairly easily hauled out after sailing. That'll get rid of most of the parking fees at a stroke which means that if you want to an over-nighter you'll be quids in and be able to afford staying in a a nice little b&b/hotel and eating at a nice restaurant. It makes perfect sense :)

At that rate I can afford a gardener to cut the grass !

I have to disagree with you on that.My wife although not a great sailor derivesimmense pleasure from bashing through the waves more than Ido but sheappreciates the calm and tranquility at anchour.Indeed the boat would belive a second home whilst in the marina whilstweworkedonthe finca but wafting around the rias will be as important

So far, I'm not seeing the bit that isn't your fault

If your wife was put off by the engine requiring easy start then she’s a wise woman.

I think Wansey is a little confused between a police confession where you are supposed to implicate others....and a religious confession where you take full responsibility for your guilt
