I've been following this thread with interest.... If I accept that Garmin is the No1 choice( and to be honest in my case it probably is, simply because I currently have a Garmin 550 and I have found the tech support to be first classs) then what model of plotter would you go for if you had a budget of say £1,000-1500?

If it will fit into the available space, squeeze your budget a tad and go for a GPSMAP 4010

For single station the mid sized GpsMap 750s offers good value. Supports Radar, Sonar, Chartplotting, NMEA 2000 and AIS.

I opted for the GPSMAP 4008 good all round piece of kit which would just shoehorn into the available space. Should just about get one within your budget if you haggle.
