Just a thought: presumably any insurance company outside the UK would not fall under the purview of the UK Insurance Ombudsman. Equally any litigation would be cross-border and more complicated/expensive.
However, if the cover is paid for by credit card, then the credit card company is 'jointly and severally' liable -- in other words, just as liable as the insurance company. If the insurance company won't cough up for a legitimate claim, then the card issuer can be made to -- a far easier process than sueing a company in Ulan Bator, or wherever.
I've succeeded (fairly painlessly and at no expense) in one claim against my credit card company when a Spain-based internet airline booking service cocked up a booking and refused to refund me. I can't see any reason why the same wouldn't apply in respect of insurance, but then I'm not expert.
Any thoughts, anyone?
