North Wales Sailing Schools

I'd like to get my Day Skipper certificate this year and as my previous sailing has been mainly in north Wales I'd like to go with a sailing school in this area. I will also need to do the theory first.

Can anyone offer any recommendations or places to avoid?

I did a day skipper course with Island Sea School based in Port Dinorwic on the Menai Strait. I'm sure you could find a website or a phone number. It was very good course and the boat which we used was a Rival 41 called Island Rose.

The ones mentioned may be very good . But I advise that you keep away from Conwy.Unless you like sitting in the marina from 6 oclock on a friday night tied up waiting for the person/ instruter to turn up saturday morning . A quick sail around Puffin island tie up at Liverpool Arms . [Sorry we have missed the tide to go through the swelles] Food on board tied up to the reserch boat, a few beers,Early start back to marina . Clean boat, then get Handed course completion cert .You may ask" but what about the night sailing."But that does not matter

Stan Roberts runs the Island Sea School and I have been using it for years for different reasons. Did my CS there last year and crossed Biscay in the Rival 41 (lovely boat).

Agree - you probably cannot do better than Plas Menai - Highly qualified and experienced instructors and properly funded and equipped boats

Done First Aid course at Plas Menai, Coastal Skipper with Conway and know Stan at Island Sea School and several of the instructors at Plas (my boat until this season was at Port Dinorwic) - can recommend Plas and ISS, I didn't have any problems at Conway but that was several years ago...
