North Wales Cruising...?

Hi, thanks for all the local info, thats great! I think I will concentrate on Anglesey and the Menai, and if the weather offers a good window I will make a detour to the IOM. I have the Anglesey cruising pilot and it is indeed fantastic!

Thanks, maybe see you there sometime,

Holger

Conwy is an excellent place to stay imho. 2 marinas, river moorings, beautiful sceneary, nice town with friendly locals, excellent grub in Castle Hotel 4* restaurant, new 5* hotel opens next summer at Deganwy Quay.
We've been over three times now and will return again next year.
Conwy Marina Berth Holders Association website very useful: www.cmbha.org

Can't you say the same thing about going sailing at all?
I apologise to others who find our bickering tedious but we have been here before over the Rock Channel in the Mersey. You appear to be more cautious than me. There is nothing wrong with this but please don't criticise me everytime I give valid advice to somebody else. I am sure other forum users can make up their own minds about what risks to take.

You can fill 7 days with excellent cruising around Angelsey. Try lunch at Moelfre and then playing in the Straits staying overnight rafting on Prince Madoc. Then through the swellies and on to Port Dinorwic or Victoria Dock - Caernavon (has the best staff). Go down to the Lleyn Pennisular to the beautiiful Porth Dinllean for a great night on anchor and a great pub -the Ty Coch. On to Holyhead for a great welcome in the yacht club. On the way back try a night or lunch in Porth Wen for complete isolation. You will have experienced some of the most interesting and beautiful tidal gates in the world.

Alternate, if you want the miles, is the "Irish Sea triangle". Conwy, Port St Mary IOM, Malahide or Howth in Ireland, back to Caernafon,Vic Dock, then home to Conwy. Or the other way round. If the weather is good then you would have time to include Carlingford Lough marina.

All wonderful.

Stig,
Did you get a good reply? At 2m Conwy can be entered from -3 hours day or night. Well lit. just watch for the dog leg between C6 and C8 because of C8 has 30 seconds between flashing and sometimes seems like eternity. Most difficult bit is in Conwy estuary as shore lights ruin visibility.

Generally don't try to enter Conwy late, particularly on springs, and don't enter on the EBB in high winds say SW/W or especially NW F6 or over.

Take the trouble it's a great place.
