Hi. Hope you all had a good weekend.

Was hoping some of you might be able to help...

We're doing a news story in the next issue about proposals for a new marina development close to Appledore in North Devon.

I was just wondering if any of you boat near there and have an opinion on whether a flashy new marina in that area is a good thing or a bad thing?

Hi Kate

I've not heard about those plans but I think it would be great. We are berthed at Portishead, currently the next place we can stay afloat overnight is Padstow heading in that direction, about 110 NM which is a fair old slog. Last time we did it we broke it upo with a stop at Lundy.

The South Wales coast is a bit more friendly with marinas at Cardiff, Swansea and Milford Haven.

For a bit more of a response you may want to try a post on the Bristol Channel forum.

Years ago the sewers discharged into the estuary dont know if that has changed

I am all for it. As already said there is a shortage of places to stay all the way along the North Devon and Cornwall coast so it limits cruising options if you cannot take the ground or need a walk ashore mooring

Marina

I had not heard of it and my brother sails out of Instow (across the water)
Have plans been submitted?
You may get more response on Sbutt as there are quite a few forumites in N Devon who not look in here.

sewer discharge was stopped years ago, the rivers a lot cleaner now,

personally i think a marina in the Torridge is a good idea and well over due, but the knapp farm area is to far up river and will be to tidal,
even with lock gates and a dredged channel it will only be accessible for a small time either side of the top of the tide,
