Morning folks..

Anyone else following Awanui NZ (Nordhavn 51) as he makes his way gradually from Turkey back to NZ via the world (it seems)?
Quirky videos but very humble guy and they're a lot of fun to watch. Mark is certainly getting use out of his new boat and there's no PR nonsense that I can see. What is good, is good and what is bad is bad.
Interesting to see how the new '51 is playing out. Not my cup of tea but a very capable boat.

How many litres of diesel are needed between Turkey and NZ?;
Plenty do it with saily boats but a long trip for a mobo.
I suspect it's in fact a shorter trip for a 'mobo' compared to a sail boat, you can at least go in a straight line (although against that, I suppose you've got to factor in fuelling locations).

Presumably Youtube under that handle?

I have enjoyed Tony Fleming's videos in the past. Very calming, almost soporific, voice and a nice turn of phrase. Not to mention the amazing scenery.

The episodes were too long and not well edited but it did have some good content and it's a very honest watch, just plenty of fast-forwarding required.

Given the amount of radio use, I did think it an odd name for a vessel but it must mean something to the owner.

If you are in a hurry to get to NZ sailing boats cross the southern ocean faster than motor boats. But that is thread drift.
Still quite a mammoth journey. Hope they enjoy it.

It's a quirky channel and not as peaceful as Tony Fleming's adventures. That said, and no disrespect to T.F, his video work is fantastic but his narrating is a touch monotone..

Mark with Awanui NZ is warts n all and it's refreshing to see a guy with a 1.5 million quid boat leaving his tender high n dry on more than one occasion. I do agree about the AIS / TSS point. He was a touch defiant. I'm not a great fan of the 90 degree across the lanes thing myself, but you do have to pick your battles and if you don't follow the rules they'll hit you hard. Defiance is expensive on that one..

But I've actually warmed to his videos. They are long but good to watch and chuckle to whilst having breakfast.

What I would say with the N51. For personal taste I think they're trying to do too much with the interior. That separate helm area with seating and bed is a big chunk taken out of the interior and the saloon area is pretty minimal. I see how it works on the bigger 'Nordies' but I think it's too much of a sacrifice on the '51. That said, what do I know?? I think it has sold very well indeed. A good money earner for Nordhavn I think.

PS.. Mark's issues with his Webasto heater did make me raise an eyebrow. I've a friend with a recent Webasto Evo and his has gone pop too!

Personally I like the idea of the whole raised pilot house that you can be in 24 hours.....I like the idea of boat ranges where they try to keep the same features in the smaller boats as you find in the larger ones. Not saying I would go on such an epic voyage....but it’s like having a 4x4....you appreciate that you can drive up Kilimanjaro....even if you only ever go on the school run. The idea of picking up your new boat from China and taking it home is something pioneered by Nordhavn.

The other one we watch on and off is Sailing Lady Lisalot mainly as Henk-Jan was heading up to Denmark and my wife wants to do the same trip.

I've watched this guy.. Some interesting stuff. I say this tongue in cheek but he sounds like a classic guy who as spent too long at sea. He's a crazy man!! haha. But fair play to him. He's an entertaining dude and it amazes me how badly he suffers sea sickness but doesn't let it stop him..

I like the idea. But on the '51 when I take a close look at the rest of the accommodation, the saloon is very very small and I think as you say, to do a trip from China (or Turkey where I think these are made?) home, the pilot house with sleeping area is great. However, once i've done the trip and now I'm living with the boat month by month and probably spending more time relaxing and socialising, I think it's a step too far for me. For month by month owning and cruising I'd sacrifice the big chunk taken up by the pilot house sleeping area etc and throw it into more open socialising. I think I'm still more Fleming than I am Nordhavn with layouts.

Marks videos are very open and honest. They are different to other Nordhavn Vlogs, I find myself playing them on the tv whilst doing something else and only engage for the more interesting bits. That always leaves your open to critisism.

I don’t drink coffee 🤦‍♂😜.

I raised an eyebrow when I saw his cross channel track so much so that I grabbed. Screenshot. His argument was poor, if he had altered course to port a few times to pass behind eastbound traffic that would be acceptable. I have crudely added an orange line that would have only added 5NM and been perfectly legal.
