Noob anchoring in the Solent

Hello,
Having never anchored before we'd like to find somewhere in the Solent to do a few test runs. Can anyone recommend anywhere where it's relatively easy and we won't cause too much chaos? I have checked out Osbourne Bay but I'm not sure that's a good idea during Cowes Week?
Thanks in advance.

Osborne bay will be fine even in Cowes week. The races tend not to go in there and you can find lots of room plus it is a good spot to watch the world go by.

Just go out and practice. It is not a big deal. We had 55kn 2 weeks ago at anchor and were more than comfortable.

Eek! That sounds like a scenario I'd like to avoid. Did you sit it out?

Anchored @ 0200hrs, nothing else in sight, but was pitched from bunk about 10 mins later.
Rushed up on deck, nothing to be seen, because ship had passed behind Castle Point, then reappeared going toward Calshot/Southampton Water. Also happened again later, but on that occasion, watched ship passing. No sign of any wash/wave, until it reared up alongside & hit the boat quite violently, knocking it down.
Anchored further out since.
