Non-Tidal Thames to Hamble

Taking a friends boat from the non-tidal Thames round to Hamble and was just seeing if anyone had any recommendations for overnight moorings/Restaurants/Pubs which we may have over looked.

Stops being approx. Chatham - Dover/Ramsgate - Brighton - Hamble

As mentioned, these are approx as planning is still a work in progress.

If it were me, the weather allows and you get an early enough start from Teddington, I would miss out Chatham and go straight for Ramsgate/Dover. Again, if the weather allows, Ramsgate/Dover to the Solent is also possible in 1 day although Brighton is the obvious stop over. If you do stop in Brighton and you like a curry, I can recommend the place upstairs in the complex next to the marina. Can't remember the name but you can't miss it.

Looking at a 930 HW start from Teddington so plenty of time to get round to Ramsgate/Dover however new boat to him and it's been sitting on the Thames for a while so didn't want to overstretch my expectations.

Indian in Brighton sounds a plan though. ta

in your planning, I would pack some spare fuel filters,as you say the boats been sitting on the non tidal thames as soon as you hit waves its going to stir up the fuel in the tanks and whatever may be laying in the tanks bottoms.

Depending on the weather, you could drop into Eastbourne between Dover and Brighton. Several good restaurants around the marina.

Have been caught out woth that one in the past! Had the skipper pack them before the keys to the boat! Thanks for pointing out though as sods law if you hadn't i wouldn't have remembered either

Pubs Chatham. If in MDL,taxi through Medway Tunnel to......

Upper Upnor.The Kings Head(food) or The Tudor Rose.(drink)
Lower Upnor.The Ship(drink) The Pier (food)

The pub right next to marina(Ship and Trades) is sort of OK if dying of thirst but go to other side of river if you can.

Teddington to Eastbourne is a 10 to 12hr run,

Teddington to Ramsgate, if weather ok another hour at 20 ish knots would get you to Dover.

Dover/ Ramsagte to Eastbourne is 3 to 4 hours, or Brighton if Weather good is another 40 mins if that.

then 3 to 4 hours from Eastbourne/ Brighton to Solent/Hamble.

Have been a Thames Boater and a South Coast boater but never joined the two so coupled with a newly picked up boat for this journey it has calmed the nerves a tad.

Looking to make this happen on the 25th March so will keep you posted.

Wether you turn er right at the end of Sea Reach and come to see us or keep going to the boaty hell aka the southcoast,when you get to Southend monitor Ch 74 for a good idea of whats going on in the estuary.

I'd pick Ramsgate instead of Dover unless that extra distance really mattered (or you had a dog on board!) For some reason its always horribly lumpy just off Dover, and not just wash from the ferries. Much in the end depnds on weather and range, once you go past Dover there isn't really anywhere to hide until Eastbourne, Rye is not really all tide.

The straits can be a bit thrilling in fog
