Non-stop solo across the Pacific at age 83 (after being the first to do it 60 years ago!)

Might mention ere that when we were in Northern Canada a few years ago , that far far up, on the West Coast there was a memorial to a Japanese Fella , a Fisherman , who its stated tried to sail accross the Pacific to Canada on his own , in his Fishing Boat ; HIs Fishing Boat finally was washed up in Canada but no sign of the Fella ; the boat having sailed its journey safely

Make one think that our Boats can do quite well without our , probably RYA inspired courses , on their very own ; rather like those Channel Crossings all made without any certificates at all ( Pardre John will be miffed?)

Might actually be Alaska not Canada ?

There was a thread about the ICC recently :)

What an inspiring story!

Has anyone found any details, or pictures, of his boat?

I'd guess the one shown in the Guardian is a bit more than nineteen feet OA.

The current one is something like 19 feet. (It's like a hi-tech 'Shrimpy'!)

For some reason I'm currently unable to post the images on here (perhaps someone else will oblige), but if you click this link 'Kenichi Horie', you'll see the current one - Mermaid III - among various other boats he's had.

Thank you ...... just what I was hoping for!

What a seriously capable looking yacht, with an inspirational skipper.

A fair bit 'nippier' than 'Shrimpy', I'd wager?

A great team!
