Would there be a problem using aluminium chequer plating instead of treadmaster.

The weight is the only problem I can see and yet it would not be so great.

Anyadvice or useful comments please?

Personally I wouldn't trust it unless it was horizontal and motionless. On a boat it is likely to be anything but! Also decks are rarely flat so there would be a problem with the complex curves. There would be a lot of wastage. It's edges would be a nightmare for tripping over because of it's thickness. Problem of weight as you say. Also it would look horrible IMHO. I think it would go grey and furry in a couple of years, as well as making the boat look like a prop from Blake's Seven while it's new and shiney. What's wrong with non-slip paint?

Might be nice for holding cookouts. I imagine you'd be able to fry eggs on it on a warm sunny day.

I have just come up with a great idea for decks!

Having read about the expliots of certain forumites recently replacing teak decks, I have the anserw! It came to me as I was redecorating our new house. I was looking around HomeBase and there it was........... Laminate panel flooring!!!!!!!

In big sheets it will take no time to lay! It is fine for bathrooms, so will be no trouble with the wet.

I would be more than happy to give it a try, but we have TBS decking, but if anyone would like to give it a try, please do, I am happy to pass on the idea.

We had this on the tail lifts of many of our lorries and it's excellent non-slip until it gets wet, when i'ts like an ice rink. We painted ours and while the paint was wet sprinkled it with fine sand. Works well and lasts about 2 years.

Depends on how you sail your boat I suppose.
