Asked the forum a while back about above, and one of the recomendations was Sandtex, another was silical or kiln dried sand sprinkle, but what paint would be used for the latter option?
TIA, C_W

I use Johnstone's floor paint. My local paint shop (The Paint Shed, Stirling) will mix non-slip granules in it. Available in a variety of colours. Cheap as chips.

If you use sand all you get is paint sovered sand. You need to usa a proper non slip additive which floats to the surface.
We use awlgrip and griptex although you may not want to pay the the price for this.
Blakes used to do an additive that can be added to their gloss, and gives a good result.

I used International nonslip deck paint. Current product is "Interdeck". Would use the same again ~~~ can't see the point of frigging about with domestic paint, that might not perform so well, and sand.

However you don't need a high gloss paint, but I don't know where that leaves you with domestic stuff.
I thought the technique was to apply the paint and sprinkle on the sand while still wet. Brush off the surplus when dry and apply a second coat.

Interlac 665 on top of a zinc primer and sprinkle of aqua shot blast then another coat of 665 and another sprinkle and then a another coat of 665 and when the parts wear where you most walk on it does not leave smooth patches.

I've used all three systems - the gloss paint with sand sprinkle (Vic's description is spot on), the marine gloss with bits in (International - forgotten the name) and the non-slip paint (Interdeck) - on both wood and GRP.

All work but overall I'd go for the Interdeck - it does'nt work any better but its easier to apply, clean and patch when its chipped. Dries very quickly and is nice and thick - also probably easier to keep clean.

I think if you paint a deck you have to expect its going to take few knocks.

Go onto Ebay, and type Jotun in search box, you will be in touch with Malcolm Johnson, they do all marine applications, and also alluminium oxide pellets to give anti slip finish, This firm are the best in the UK I have no connection other than a very satisfied customer.
