I'm in the process of refurbing a fibre glass yacht. The decks need repainting, it has previously been painted some time ago, in a matt finish. The deck has a fine grp non slip tread moulded into it. What paint can I use that when applied won't fill or cover this up and spoil it, presumably it doesn't want to be gloss or as that would be slippy, neither does it want to be non slip with grit in it or be anything thick. It has been previously been brushed not sprayed as I can see the brush marks in places.
I would be grateful for any suggestions.

Dulux textured Weathershield Masonry paint.

Umpteen colours

Cheap

Long-lasting (mine was >5 years)

Easy to re-touch.

Good grip.

For the huge colour range it's "Paint Mixing Weathershield Textured Masonry Paint" that you need.

I did mine ... over the moulded non slip areas , which weren't non slip at all when wet, with Interdeck. Colour range is very limited though

Did mine with International paint Interdeck 3 years ago ontop of my Treadmaster decking, wash/scrub clean existing from any grease, painted on with a brush in a dabbing criss cross application, one tip is it will dry in 24 hrs, but leave for about 4 days to allow to go really hard before walking on it.

Available in various colours

Does it contain grit?

Yes it contains a fine "grit" ... that's what makes it non slip
Thanks. I wondered if it might contain the small hollow glass beads such as Hempel sell for mixing with deck paint

I tried these, mixed with paint, and I wasn't very pleased with the result.

Re the comment above about painting over treadmaster.
I'm planning on using Kiwigrip deck paint as my deck is in pretty poor condition, and I have lots of leaks to sort so I expect that by the time I have finished with it, it will resemble the surface of the moon.
I had assumed that I would laboriusly remove all of the existing treadmaster, but maybe I could belt sand the texture off it and then paint over?

on flat accessible areas i used a router to remove the bulk of the treadmaster & glue, its the adhesive that is hard work to remove

Back to original question. I don't believe it is possible to paint in any from over molded in GRP non skid and retain the non skid aspect. Any paint will tend to fill the hollows and smooth out the original non skid. As non skid is essential that only leaves paint with grit in it. So question is which will look best. I think masonry paint or added granules on the non skid patches and plane gloss paint around the non skid areas. PS don't paint is white like I did as glare can be bad. Beige is better. olewill

Kiwi will work on top of moulded non skid as it is a structure paint to apply, then add the desired structure.

The manufacturers of Treadmaster do actually sell a dedicated paint for their product. I used it a few years ago on my previous boat. It comes in standard Treadmaster colours, is easy to use , water based, so easy cleanup, but do not risk using if not certain it will dry before rain arrives, [how do I know that :( ].
The only downside is that it costs almost £55 per litre!

Currently Interdeck is about £22 per 750ml, I also looked at the treadmaster paint finish on another boat and it was hard to tell the difference and at £55 per/ltr no way :)

Sandtex masonry paint is about half that for more than 10 times as much!!!!
