Bruce won't want to know your circumstances and you could be putting him in a difficult position by telling him, just keep your head down and say as little as possible. In his ideal world, he just wants folks to dump their boats and bugger off but does accept liveaboards, some of them permanent residents. If thinking of heading there, book in advance as they're pretty full. We've been using the yard for annual 4-6 weeks haul for 16 years.
Aye to all that ?
It wouldn’t be fair to ask someone to compromise themselves .
I knew Bruce before bruces yard from the old yard next to what is now Bruce’s . Top guy .
But, information is information.
Abd the OP is trying to gather info.
The more informed , the better the quality of decision
(We both know that , obv)

Portuguese residence is also something we’re starting to look into- we might be a bit short of the proof of income side of things for a year or two until our pensions kick in. Unfortunately, I’m one of those ‘goody two shoes’ type of girlies that finds knowingly or even accidentally bending rules difficult, so chancing not getting caught isn’t an option for me… no judgement on those who do, I wish I could!

From what I understand from recent applicants, an application for residence can be made to SEF and they email a document which states residence has been applied for, entitling the applicant to stay in country. What, if any, documentary proof has to be submitted at this time, I don't know but someone will no doubt be along soon to comment.

Weeks or more likely months later, SEF will arrange an appointment for interview. If someone meets the criteria, they will be granted residence but, if they can't prove eligibility, they will be refused and have to leave but, have already gained extended time there, without breaking the rules.

I am aware of 2 boats from the US, who went down this route. Concerned about their status they contacted SEF who replied. “You have done all that is required and until we contact you, use this e-Mail as your authority to remain in Portugal indefinitely”.

After w bile they contacted SEF and were advised, “Don’t contact us, we will call you”.

Nothing more happened and both US boats departed Portugal Waters, 2 and 3 years later, respectively, having never been contacted again.

Portugal has one of the lowest onthly income requirements circa €760pm I believe.

Not sure how it can decide on regular money transferred from UK account

We have had no checks on income and applied for residency.

Many have applied for visas.

We stayed in Nazare Marina as a livaboard for some 15months while new house being built with no problem nor any checks.

Look at new thread on 90 days

Prior to B day, for temporary residence no need to check funds as we had an automatic right under EU rules. When I converted to permanent, still before B, proof of income was on the list but not checked. Under the rules as they apply now, different matter but much depends on whether interviewer is sympathetic or jobsworth.

Were you in Portugal including the islands at all during Covid times? There is a loop hole. If you were, you were unable to apply for the residency because all the offices were shut, therefore they were accepting applications with proof of presence in Portugal during Covid times.

As an update on this post- I’ve answered my own question, in a way; yes, we left it too late! Unusual weather, port/bar closures, orca avoidance (day time only, close to shore short hops), Tangier full, a trip back to the UK….. we only got as far as Lisbon. Happily hauled out today in Alges boatyard (new, friendly, medium cost, can live and work on own boat, chandlers on site, very close to shops, rail station, Lisbon)- off to visit relatives and will be back in the spring.
