Non genuine Racor 500 series fuel filter assembly.

I'm also looking at Nigel's link. You have to scroll down to the very bottom of the page to see the buyer reviews.

Ah yes I see now. That's an unusual way to rate eBay sales. It's normally dine through feedback which considering the number of these the seller has sold, hasn't attracted any negative. I think I would still go ahead, and may in fact do so.

At that price I might consider upgrading my Cav type to a Racor type. It looks much easier to change the filter. The Cavs are pain.

Does anybody know if they do the twin 500 set up with DP gauge and filter selector/swap over handle?

Would love that set up but Racor want around £800 which is a horrendous figure to pay!

I am investigating the possibility of making one of these using these pattern filter bodies-our local hydraulic shop has ready bored and threaded manifold of many different types available, as well as three way valves, vac gauges and unions.

I would like to see a genuinr Racor one close up first though-Racor say their valve is special.

Cant see why the selection valve is so special. My local Parker Racor shop said the same thing. Sounds to me like they may be making it up to justify the horrific price. Keep me in the loop if you decide to make one up.
Cheers

Good evening viewers. I am here for your entertainment.....

The FG500 instructions are very clear, when changing the element the unit has to be filled to near the top with clean fuel, the manual refers to this as priming the unit.

If you fail to do this, you might find you waste 2 days mucking about and fitting a new lift pump when in fact, all that is needed is a cup full of fuel in the Racor. It is especially useful, when the buyer of the boat has been waiting since before lockdown and you are trying hard not to dick him about but failing miserably!

It's a rather old thread and, as far as I can see, isn't about the filter changing procedure. Call me confused.

I think he's just trying to help other people not make the same mistake as him.

I recently struggled with bleeding / priming some other types of filter, it being the first time I'd done it.

Hi-I have just recieved one of these Chinese copies from an ebay supplier for £44.99 delivered. It is well made and so far all the bits appear to be interchangable with the genuine Racor.

I am very immpressed so far. I cleared a little fraze from the mounting holes, ran a tap into the threaded holes for the unions-the powdercoating has got on the threads-and threw away the supplied element and fitted a genuine Racor one.
It has the internal floating ball which cuts fuel supply off should water get in in large quantities. The O rings may be of questioable quality, but genuine Racor elements come with these, so easily rectified should they prove inadequate.

Excellent value for money. I will fit it soon with a 10 micron element after the OE Racor 500 which has a 30 micron element. This should extend the life of the 10 micron Yanmar filter, which is a bugger to change and also expensive.

The Racors are top loading so are much easier and cleaner to change or service.

Service report when it has been in use for a while.

I bought one of those about a year ago. You literally can't tell the difference.
