Non calorific water heating.

Do not be in too much of a hurry to throw out your gas water heater. As other posters have said if fitted as original equipment or before they changed the rules they are acceptable. Even now I have heard it said that you can fit new ones so long as the exhaust (chimney) system is to the required spec (unfortunately I am told this means the chimney is so long it interferes with the boom!). My Southerly came with a gas water heater when I bought it secondhand and is passed along with the other parts of the gas system each year by the Corgi gas man. If your boat is a sailing boat do you really want to start your engine every time you want a shower? Often one is at anchor when needing hot water - start the engine, providing noise and running an engine under light load? Running an engine a lot under light load is not recommended!

All looking most helpful, I'll have to reread this thoroughly offline and look deeply into the suggestions. As for keeping the gas system, I don't think a flue is possible as mine has an open top with a pilot light amongst all it's gubbins, it would be my best option though, due to it being cheapest and nicely instant. Thanks.
