Hi gang.

We have a Victorian corkscrew that's been in the family for ever. It broke last night. I'd love to get it repaired, but haven't a clue where. Anyone know a small, expert metal engineering shop that might tackle it?

As you can see from the pix, the 'screw' (actually seems to be a twisted, tapered wire, needle sharp) broke close to where its 'shoulder' is inserted into the pull-up gubbins. At a guess repair would either be by extracting remnants of the screw and making and fitting a replacement, or maybe sleeving over the break and welding/soldering it up. Material - maybe cast iron for the body and tempered steel for the screw? Almost a job for model-maker. Any ideas gratefully received.

Brazing a new corkscrew into the hub might be the best bet but if that doesn't work then laser welding might. Contact Rofin Basel for advice.
