Non boaty - 12v sockets

I gave a link above to CPC who have 2A, 5A and 15A. They are still used in India and South Africa but not in UK for at least 50 years.

Seems like yu havn't been to Scotland. Many new flats up here have these around the room. They are wired to the room light switch so are only live if a wall switch is on and intended for standard lights. Available in B and Q and others tof=gether with wall sockets. Might be out of stock at present due to Evergiven delays etc.

The caravan type are good - they're small and cheap, and couldn't be confused with anything else.
My boat has some of the old round pin plugs (for 12v things) they do the job well enough but are bulkier - if I was doing it myself I'd use the caravan ones

In many ways, it would be simpler to run everything, other than lighting and fans, off an inverter. Slight conversion loss, but far greater flexibility in every other way.

It seems so odd that we are still stuck with the old crappy cig light 12v standard. What about 12v DIN motorbike plugs? Scarce here in the US, but I thought they might have caught on in the UK.

How about something nice, not horrifically expensive and you can have the 12v sockets and the USB sockets all nicely matching. If you also need 12v laptop charging sockets and don't want to swap the cig lighter plugs on the chargers, make some patch cables up, DIN plug on one end, cig socket on the other.

If you want the light sockets to be switchable you can fit a matching switch next to the socket, or you can have the switch somewhere more convenient.

Paul, interested to see the product you are suggesting but your FR link just takes me to an account login screen..........

I installed these for exactly that purpose in my living room when renovating about ten years ago.... didn’t want to use 13A sockets, as they were on a lighting circuit... what else would you use for this?

We're only going to be running lights, occasional USB and laptop charging. As we have a 12v laptop charger for travelling, and there are plenty of 12v USB options, it doesn't make sense to add an inverter.
