A rant....

Is it necessary for rowing coaches, who are travelling perhaps 20ft from the boat they are coaching, to use a load hailer to bawl an unecessarily loud and intrusive commentary? The volume is such that I can often follow the progress of some boat crews for 1/4 mile or so.

Its particularly ironic that rowing, one of the greenest of water sports, is now becoming the major source of noise pollution on the Thames.

One for the Evironment Agency?

Not just the coaches. I had stern words for a couple of coxes at Henley a few weeks ago....their language was atrocious. At least the coach heard it as well and reprimanded them.

Rowing eights f'ing and blinding early on a beautiful spring morning is definitely not conducive to a pleasant breakfast in the sunshine.

The previous owner of the modern house just above Cleeve Lock was driven to distraction by the Coach's. He would arrive home from long flights crawl into bed at say 5am only to be awoken an hour or so later by a Coach bawling through a megaphone to an Eight drifting outside his house. What particularly annoyed him was the Coach too would be drifting an Oar's length from the Eight and could talk to them, if he wished, in a normal tone.

Moor up at the Fairmile and F me; at 6ish in the morning down would come the Wallingford lot, the loudhailer would be 90db's and the wash from the coaching boat would almost put Nenesse on the bank; and then for good measure, 10 to 15 minutes later, they would come back the other way and the experience would be repeated ! A***holes the lot of them!

Yes, all rowers are the same as are their coaches.

By the way, Alex (Rebellion) today won a Gold medal in the London Youth Games in a four, a Silver in the pairs and his team (Richmond Upon Thames Borough) took the Team Gold.

He's a Dual mode boater though /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Well done Alex!

Now do us all a favour, and sort out those loudmouthed wake creating chaps for us will you? /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Totally agree but because the tossers are standing on ground not owned or managed by the EA, they will not do anything.

Perhaps the nanny state will impose a limit on decibels for us?

I did have some fun on a previous boat that had a megaphone if its own, and i replied to one of the arrogant gits with it saying "WHY ARE YOU SHOUTING!!" /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
