I have a little Honda 4 stroke 2.3HP which pushes my inflatable along nicely. Trouble is, it is soooo noisy! It sounds like a petrol engine with no silencer (which I suppose it is). Is this normal? Maybe its because it is air cooled. Does anyone else have this motor and is it the same?

I don’t have one but I think that they are all like that, the air cooled Honda's. Water cooling does seem to deaden the engine noise.

Go electric and the wash the dinghy creates then becomes noisy. I wasn't warned about that !

The 2hp Hondas are either loved or hated on theses forums. 😀

I have the Honda and fall in the neutral category. If you are not in a hurry, running it at low revs makes all the difference and gives unbelievable mpg.

Yes, but when you're on the water, there's no shortage of water and water's great for cooling engines!
The problem is that a dingy starts from the beach...picture the scene, you push the boat into the water while the surf is trying to put you back on the beach....you get the depth to put the leg down and start the engine...the time you’ve pulled the cord the dingy has spun round and you are on the sand....again and again. But wait, you have a Honda 2.3.... with the dingy on the beach and fully raised you start the engine....then push the boat out to sea, shove the leg down twist the throttle and you are away...
